Hello everyone! You may have heard through the grapevine or otherwise that RCW has a new dietitian. Or maybe you haven’t. If not, here’s a short introduction: my name is Jordan Murray. I’m a registered dietitian (RD). I’m not from La Crosse originally but I know the Coulee Region very well and received my degree from Viterbo University right here in town.
Some of you reading this may have worked with a dietitian before, but I’m guessing many of you have not. What can a dietitian do for you? Here’s a short list:
Assist with weight management
Provide education on what a balanced, nutritious diet could look like for you as an individual
Explain food portioning
Help manage nutrition-related conditions including (but not limited to) diabetes, celiac disease, anemia, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, GI conditions, food allergies, and more
Develop nutrition-related life skills such as cooking, grocery shopping, and eating balanced meals when you’re out at your favorite restaurant
Provide guidance as you sort through the endless stream of nutrition-related information in the media including food and diet marketing
Make sure your body gets all of the building blocks it needs to utilize the work you’re doing with cardiovascular or muscle-building exercise
Pass on evidence-based nutrition advice and explain how this information can be applied to your unique lifestyle
I also want to emphasize that my services are available to eligible clients free of charge! A typical outpatient RD charges 100-150 dollars for an initial session and 50-100 dollars for follow-ups. Hopefully I don’t sound like a used-car salesman, but you can’t beat this value! You should also keep an eye out for group-based education and interactive events like grocery store tours and nutrition book clubs. My intention is to update this blog weekly to keep you in the loop on what’s happening with nutrition at RCW. I encourage any of you that are interested in learning more to reach out to me at email@example.com or call my extension (3436). Thanks for reading and have a great week!
